Wheeling Jesuit University’s annual celebration of international heritage – Culture Fest – is set for March 10.

culture-fest-02.jpgCulture Fest 2018 will kick off at 11 a.m. in WJU’s Benedum Room inside Swint Hall. This year’s event will feature entertainment, native dishes and cultural heritage from more than 25 countries.

“This yearly event gives our students from countries across the world the opportunity to showcase their talent through native dance and cultural presentations. Culture Fest 2018 allows the students and our employees to display their heritage and to share their culture with fellow students and members of the community,” said Mary Lu Adams, assistant director of Student Services.

In addition to performances and presentations, the students and WJU employees will cook and serve ethnic dishes.

Outside performances will be provided this year by Allegro Dance Company and Gallowglass, an Irish band featuring WJU faculty member Pat Plunkett. Wheeling Jesuit students also will perform during the event.

Wheeling Jesuit University is the second home to more than 70 international students from nearly 30 countries.

“The two-hour event is an excellent chance for the campus and the Wheeling community to learn about other cultures, taste ethnic dishes and be entertained. Admission is free and those attending will have the chance to sample food from more than 25 countries,” Adams added. “We hope members of the community will join and celebrate the heritage of our students.”

Some of the countries being represented this year are: Cameroon, DR Congo, Ecuador, Fiji, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Kenya, Lebanon, Micronesia, Nigeria, Poland, South Africa, South Korea, Thailand, Trinidad & Tobago and Venezuela.
