Season Outlook

2010 Men’s Season Outlook

The 2010 Track and Field season will kick off the Cardinals on December 5th at the Kent State Golden Flash Gala. The Cardinals enter this season with high expectations and something to prove, as their back to back streak of WVIAC Championships was broken at the 2009 meet. While this year’s team returns several athletes from last year’s squad, they also lost a large number of points with the departure of a few key seniors. However, a very strong freshman recruiting class should fill those lost points. The youthful Cardinal squad will look to be back at the top of the conference.

The 2009 squad will be lead by Senior speedster Jason Forrester (Parkersburg, WV) who was a national qualifier in the 2008 season. Forrester leads a group of  young sprinters who will look to set the track on fire during the 2010 season. Along with Forrester the Cardinals will utilize the speed of Sophomores Mike Little (Waldorf. MD), twin brothers Brandon and Travis McKinley (Wheeling, WV), and Junior Shane Rabant. All of these athletes helped score significant points at last years’ WVIAC meet.

In the field events the Cardinals will have several opportunities to score points with returning Senior standouts Ashton Boger (Upper St. Clair, PA) and Cameron Lee (Hampshire, WV). Also expected to score for the Cardinals will be Sophomore Craig Neiswanger (Beallsville, OH) and Freshman James Oliver (Wheeling, WV). All four of these Cardinal athletes will score heavily in the Jumps and Multi-events. Brandon and Travis McKinley, who scored valuable points last season in the long jump and triple jump will look to duplicate that this season. In the throws Mike Sammel (Pittsburgh, PA) will look to score again in the Javelin throw at the WVIAC Meet

The Cardinal mid-distance and distance runners will be lead by 2008 WVIAC freshman of the year and 5,000 meter champion Dustin Hall (St. Marys, WV) and Junior Travis Hamrick (Fairmont, WV). Hamrick is returning after an outstanding 2009 season that saw him shatter the schools outdoor 800 meter record and qualify for the NCAA National Championships. Seeking national qualifying marks and WVIAC titles will be Senior David Bowman (St. Clairsville, OH) and Sophomore Evan Bratcher (Bryanns Road, MD). Also looking to help the Cardinals to another WVIAC title will be Junior Chad Henson (Williamstown, WV) and Freshman standout, Nick Bonaventure (Media, PA).
