Steffany Krieg Finishes 1st in Final Tournament

Senior Steffany Krieg will not compete during the Cardinals 2010 Spring Season which begins in March, as she will graduate from Wheeling Jesuit in December with an Accounting Degree.

“Steffany was the team captain for the fall season and showed a tremendous amount of leadership which was valuable for a young team and will be missed this spring,” Head Coach Sue Vail stated.

Krieg led the lady golfers with an 84 stroke average and finished in the top fifteen in all six of WJU’s fall tournaments.  She began the season with a 14th place finish with scores of 94 and 89 for a 183 at the Falcon Golf Classic in Fairmont, WV.

In the WVIAC Southern Regional, she shot 158 (78, 80) at Big Bend Golf Course in Charleston, WV.  This performance earned a sixth place finish.  The Clarion Women’s Fall Invitational was shortened to 27 holes due to the inclement weather.  She shot 85 through 18 holes which was 15th and moved to 14th with a 42 in nine holes, bringing her tournament total to 127.

At the fall season’s mid-point, Steffany finished 9th in back-to-back tournaments, scoring 173 at the Gannon Fall Invitational and 168 in Wheeling’s own WVIAC Northern Regional at Moundsville Country Club.

Seton Hill University played host for the final tournament of the fall and Steffany’s collegiate career.  She led the field after the first day with a 76, and teammate Whitney Young was on her heels with a 78.  Day two at Hannestown Golf Club, Krieg shot an 82, earning a sixth on the day while the 158 for the tournament held for a first place finish.

“I am so proud that Steffany was medalist for her last collegiate tournament for she is so deserving,” said Vail.
