Wheeling Jesuit 6-0 in Tri-Match
West Liberty, WV, Oct. 24, 2009---Wheeling Jesuit volleyball team won six straight sets to defeat the West Liberty Hilltoppers and the Urbana Blue Knights on Saturday at the Academic Sports and Recreation Complex of West Liberty University.
In the first match, the Cardinals squared off with conference rival West Liberty and swept all three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-14, and 25-14. Junior Keysha Allison had the team high in kills with nine and an amazing .538 hitting percentage. The thirty-eight remaining kills were evenly disbursed among the team. Freshman Allissa Ware had a .400 hitting percentage and accounted for six kills while senior Michelle Bonfich and sophomore Megan Ozarzak each added five kills.
Junior Laura O'Reilly recorded ten digs and freshman Lindsay Gaughan followed with nine. Ware added eight digs and had three blocks.
In the second match, the Cardinals were once again led by Allison and Ware in kills for a 3-0 sweep by scores of 25-19, 25-15, and 25-23. Ware had sixteen kills (.467) and Allison followed with eleven on seventeen attempts posting a hitting percentage of .588. Sopphpomore Kristen Dubroy and Keysha Allison were responsible for all 45 assists. Dubroy had the team high with 24.
Wheeling Jesuit dominated the defensive side of the net recording 101 digs and 5.5 blocks. Senior Catie Halberstadt anchored the defense with 39 digs while O'Reilly chipped in 28 and Ware had 14. Allison led the way with three blocks while senior Missy Gossett recorded two.
Wheeling Jesuit will battle the University of Charleston in Charleston, WV on Tuesday, October 27. The match is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start.
