Perfect on Senior Day

Wheeling, WV, Oct. 31, 2009---The Cardinal Volleyball team went a perfect 6-0 on senior day defeating Bluefield State College 3-0 by scores of 25-7, 25-12 and 25-10, as well as, downing regional rival Mercyhurst College 3-0 with scores of 25 - 16, 25-13, and 25-16.

Six Cardinal seniors were recognized before the start of the Bluefield State match; #24 Michelle Bonfich, #25 Missy Gossett, #10 Catie Halberstadt, #4 Mallorie Lotycz, #18 Chelsea Skrzypek, #6 Samantha Yakey.

In the opening match, Michelle Bonfich tallied eight kills  and six digs to lead the Cardinals on both sides of the net.  Missy Gossett recorded six kills, a dig and a block while Mallorie Lotycz and Samantha Yakey each had five kills. Yakey also had two digs and a block and Chelsea Skrzypek added two kills, a dig and a block in the three sets.

Freshman Allissa Ware dominated the second match by hitting .407 with 15 kills and five digs.  Catie Halberstadt chipped in nine kills and shared the team high 11 digs with junior Laura O'Reilly.  Sophomore Kristen DuBroy tossed 21 assists and junior Keysha Allison had 15.  Allison and Gossett led the team with three blocks a piece and sophomore Megan Ozarzak had two.

Wheeling Jesuit will play host to Central State on Monday, November 2nd at 6:00 p.m.
