Jesuit Men Move On in WVIAC Tournament Wheeling Jesuit 1, Pitt Johnstown 0
Wheeling, WV, Nov. 3, 2009---Billy Wilson connected off Tony Trabert's assist in the match's 14th minute and Wheeling Jesuit's (11-5-3) stout defense made that stand up for a 1-0 WVIAC Men's Soccer Tournament triumph over Pitt Johnstown (6-12-1).
The stingy Cardinal backline did not give up a shot on goal until Shane Young had to make a save on J.P. Schantz's try in the 56th minute. The Mountain Cats' last chance came in the 87th minute when Young stopped Joe Cronan's shot that came off Marc Bucci's corner kick.
Wheeling Jesuit, which held an overall 14-6 edge in shots, had their own struggles to sneak shots past UPJ keeper Craig Neff. The Mountain Cat netminder helped keep his club in the match with six saves.
Third-seeded Wheeling Jesuit advances to Thursday's semifinal round to face Davis & Elkins. Second-seeded D&E won a 3-2 thriller in the regular season meeting on September 23. In that contest, the visiting Senators built an early 3-0 lead and held off a furious Cardinal rally.
