Wheeling, WV, Oct. 7, 2009---The Wheeling Jesuit men's soccer team (7-3-1) scored three goals on 15 shots Wednesday evening at James LaRosa Stadium to defeat the Golden Knights of Gannon University.

In the first period, WJU attempted four shots and came up empty.  Junior goalie Shane Young recorded four saves and kept the Golden Knights silent as well.

In the 61st minute, sophomore Andrew Hickey gave the Cardinals a 1-0 advantage on an unassisted goal. Eight minutes later, Hickey found sophomore Victor Picchio who sent a header to the back of the net for Jesuit’s second goal.

Junior Stephen Hawthorne finished the scoring in the 86th minute off a pass from freshman Paul Silvestrone.

Young earned the decision by completing the shutout.  He recorded two saves in the second half for a total of six on the night.

The Cardinals will travel to Millersville, PA on Saturday October 10th for a non-conference match against Millersville University at 2 p.m.
