Men Held Scoreless in Double Overtime Periods

Athens, WV, Oct. 18, 2009---Wheeling Jesuit men’s soccer earns its second split decision of the season on Sunday against conference foe Concord University.

The Cardinals started the scoring in the 24th minute of the first half.  Sophomores, Victor Picchio and Andrew Hickey were responsible for Jesuit’s lone goal when Hickey sent a pass to Picchio for the 1-0 lead.  The Cardinals’ defense would hold the Lions to three shots in the first half and took a 1-0 lead to halftime.

In the third minute of the second half, Concord’s Frankie Parks sent a pass to Zach Piekarski, who hit the back of the net to tie the game.  Wheeling Jesuit’s defense would hold off the Lions attack for the remaining three periods.

Despite being offsides nine times during the game,  the Cardinals attempted fifteen shots, recording five in the second period and none in either overtime period.

Goalkeeper Shane Young tallied four saves on fourteen shot attempts.

The men’s soccer team will begin a three game home stand starting Wednesday, October 21st against conference opponent Pitt-Johnstown at 7:00 p.m.
