Wheeling Jesuit 2016 Nursing Grads Obtain 100 Percent Pass Rate on Licensing Exam

WHEELING, W.Va., Feb. 20, 2017 - Wheeling Jesuit University's 2016 bachelor of science of nursing class has achieved a 100 percent pass rate on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX).

“We're very pleased that all 17 of our 2016 nursing graduates passed their NCLEX exam on their first try. The faculty believes this success is due in large part to the depth of knowledge provided through the curriculum and the one-on-one attention Wheeling Jesuit students receive in the classroom, as well as providing the students with access to tools to ensure they are prepared for the exam,” said Dr. Maryanne Capp, dean of the School of Health Sciences.

Dr. Robert Phillips, vice president for Academics, said, “The 100 percent pass rate is a product of the hard work of our students and the talent, teamwork and dedication of our faculty. We congratulate both our students and the department, and are certain that both will play a leading role in patient and community health for years to come.”

At Wheeling Jesuit, Capp said, the nursing faculty is dedicated to reviewing the outcomes of students and using this data to update the curriculum.

“We are committed to graduating nurses who can step into the profession and deliver safe, quality nursing care to their patients. We are confident that our graduates can make clinical decisions that provide outstanding care to the patient,” Capp added.

In addition to the BSN program, Wheeling Jesuit offers a number of programs of study in nursing.

The second degree nursing, or accelerated BA/BS to BSN, provides a pathway for individuals looking to make a career change into the field of nursing. The program is structured to allow students who hold a bachelor's degree to complete the nursing curriculum without repeating general education requirements.

Wheeling Jesuit University's online RN to BSN/MSN degree program provides an integrated curriculum of liberal arts and nursing courses designed to meet the specific needs of registered nurses who graduated from diploma or associate degree programs. The courses are offered online, allowing the students to maintain working and family responsibilities.

WJU's masters of science in nursing programs provide an online pathway to professional leadership and advanced practice roles in nursing. All courses are offered online, with clinical and practicum requirements completed in the student's home community. MSN tracks include: family nurse practitioner, nursing administration and nursing education specialist.
